Ambulance Overturns in Napak, Leaving Pregnant Woman and Another Injured

Tragedy struck Lopeii Village in Napak District on the morning of Sunday, May 11, 2025 when an ambulance belonging to Kotido General Hospital overturned while transporting a pregnant woman to St. Kizito Hospital.
The ambulance, registration number UAY 237Y, lost control and flipped over, leaving two people critically injured including an expectant mother.
According to John Longoli, who witnessed the incident, the Ambulance suddenly flipped off the road and rolled over.
“The ambulance suddenly swerved and rolled over. We ran to help and managed to pull the victims from the Ambulance,” Longoli said.
Both victims were rushed to nearby medical facilities while in critical condition for urgent care.
By the time of this publication, the victims were in critical condition as medical teams work tirelessly to stabilize them.
The accident has sparked concern over road safety and the reliability of emergency medical transport in the Karamoja region.
Napack Residents have urged the government of Uganda to prioritize the road network and health centers in the region.
An investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident has been opened by Authorities of the region. Whether the cause was a mechanical failure, driver error, or poor road conditions were factors is still under investigation.
