National Unity Platform President Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, has reaffirmed that NUP will not join the Interparty Organisation for Dialogue (IPOD), saying the platform serves the interests of the current regime and not the Ugandan people.

Kyagulanyi made these remarks during a press conference held today at the NUP party headquarters in Makerere Kavule, where the party also welcomed several new members from other political parties.

“We remain firm NUP will not join IPOD under the current circumstances bcause it serves intrests of the oppressers not the people of Uganda, and we won’t take part in that,” said Kyagulanyi.

His comments come amid renewed pressure for NUP to join IPOD, especially after the recent passing of the UPDF Amendment Bill, 2025, which political anaylsts believe it was passed with the aim of arresting and detaining opposition members.

Reports reports suggest that the government could cut public funding to parties that refuse to engage in IPOD activities. Kyagulanyi went ahead and revealed that IPOD has failed to address key democratic concerns, such as the Public Order Management Act and human rights abuses that are ever increasing in what they call a democratic state.

“They can keep their money. Our principles are not for sale. for over a decade, IPOD has just been about tea and photos, not real dialogue,” he added.

NUP has rejected IPOD since way back in 2021 and according to Secretary-General David Lewis Rubongoya the platform is only legitimizing what he termed as “brutal regime.”

NUP’s firm position has been supported by many of its followers on social media, who argue that joining IPOD would go against the party’s values and fight for justice.
