Chelsea delivered a powerful performance on Sunday, overcoming Premier League champions Liverpool with a convincing 3-1 win at Stamford Bridge. The result significantly strengthens the Blues’ bid for a Champions League berth next season.

The home side wasted no time, breaking the deadlock just three minutes after kickoff. A clever through ball from Pedro Neto found Enzo Fernández, who calmly slotted the ball past Alisson.

In a show of respect before kickoff, Chelsea lined up for a guard of honour to celebrate Liverpool’s title triumph.

Chelsea doubled their advantage in the 56th minute thanks to an unfortunate own goal from Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah. A dangerous run down the left flank ended with a low cross that deflected off Quansah and into his own net, leaving Alisson helpless once again. .

Liverpool responded with a late push and managed to reduce the deficit in the 85th minute. Virgil van Dijk rose highest to power home a header from an Alexis Mac Allister corner, giving the visitors a lifeline and injecting tension into the closing minutes.

However, Chelsea extinguished any hopes of a comeback just five minutes later. Awarded a penalty in the 90th minute, Cole Palmer stepped up and confidently buried the spot-kick to seal a well-deserved 3-1 victory.

The final whistle was met with loud celebrations from the home fans, who had earlier voiced displeasure during the pre-match guard of honour.

With just four matches remaining in the 2024–25 Premier League season, Chelsea, under the leadership of Enzo Maresca remain firmly in the race for a top-five finish. Meanwhile, despite this setback, Liverpool’s strong campaign continues, though the loss may prompt Slot to rotate his squad in the closing fixtures.
