Former Makerere Guild President Alionzi Lawrence Crosses to NRM, Cites Need for Action

Former Guild President of Makerere University, has officially joined the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM). His departure from the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) marks a significant political shift in the West Nile region.
On Tuesday, Lawrence was officially welcomed into the NRM by senior party officials. AccordingtoLawrence, his decision to switch parties was driven by a desire to focus on development rather than politics..

“The real struggle is not about parties; it’s against poverty, disease, and illiteracy, i have chosen to leave the commentary box and get onto the pitch, so I can play my part.” He said.

Lawrence said he believes the NRM party will offer him the tools to address urgent issues affecting the people of Arua.
Lawrence first rose to national attention when he contested for and won the Makerere University Guild Presidency under the NUP ticket. His victory was seen as a major boost for the opposition among youth and student circles.
However, his political journey has not been without controversy. he has faced heavy criticism with some labeling him as "double-sided" and "worthless" for what they perceive as inconsistent political positions.
