Hon. Muhammad Nsereko Declares Presidential Bid Under Ecological Party of Uganda

Hon. Muhammad Nsereko, the Independent Member of Parliament for Kampala Central, has officially declared his candidacy for the presidency in Uganda's 2026 general elections. He will contest the presidency under the banner of the Ecological Party of Uganda (EPU), a political party he now leads as its president and flag bearer.
In his announcement, Nsereko emphasized his commitment to uniting Members of Parliament and party members, highlighting the EPU's dedication to truthfulness, transparency, and integrity in its operations and governance.
The controversial MP expressed confidence that the EPU's platform would resonate with Ugandans seeking a more inclusive and accountable political environment.

The 2026 Ugandan general elections are scheduled to take place on January 12, 2026, with nominations for presidential and parliamentary candidates set between September 17 and October 3, 2025. Campaigning will commence in the second week of October 2025.
Nsereko's entry into the presidential race adds a new dimension to the electoral contest, which already includes other notable figures such as Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) from National Unity Platform (NUP) the leading opposition and incumbent President Yoweri Museveni who has been in power for the last 4 decades and he will be representing the National Resistance Movenment.
