Kyambogo University Mourns the Loss of Associate Professor James Kagaari

Kyambogo University has announced with deep sorrow the passing of Associate Professor James Kagaari in the Department of Psychology, Faculty of Social Sciences. The university shared the news via a post on X.
James Kagaari was born in 1955 in Ruhama, Ntungamo District and he passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, leaving behind a remarkable legacy after serving Kyambogo University for over 43 years.
James is an engineer but later transitioned to psychology and earned a PhD from Makerere University. He was also an industrial psychologist, researcher, and educator, he impacted countless students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

James sat on a Senate Committee of Humanities and facilitated many academic collaborations, such as a 2008 Memorandum of Understanding with the University of South Africa.
A vigil will be held on May 13, 2025, at Lower Estates, Kyambogo and he funeral service scheduled for May 14, 2025, at Kakululu Chapel, Kyambogo University and be burried on May 15, 2025, in Rwikubo Village, Kerikoro, Ruhama, Ntungamo District.
His death has deeply affected the academic and mental health communities in Uganda, with many taking to social media to share memories of his mentorship and contributions to psychology.
Kyambogo University continue to honor his memory, reflecting on a life dedicated to education, service, and the advancement of mental health.
