A heated debate has erupted following a provocative statement by Hon. Ssemujju Nganda, on Capital Gang a show hosted by Capital FM Uganda.

Ssemujju took aim at Odrek Rwabwogo, a well-known Ugandan businessman and the son-in-law of President Yoweri Museveni, accusing his family of having excessive influence over the country.

According to Ssemujju Nganda, a few people close to the first family are controlling all the country;s resorces.

“This country is effectively under the control of one family. Everything is run by them.'' SSemujju said.

''But marrying into the first family doesn’t make you a saint. Why didn’t you just take up the trade ministry and engage in legitimate business for Uganda?” Ssemujju asked Rwabwogo

The comments refer to Rwabwogo’s marriage to Natasha Museveni, the daughter of President Museveni, which took place in 2000 after a long courtship that began in the early 1990s.

The union, which solidified Rwabwogo’s ties to the first family, has raised concerns that his business success is linked to these powerful connections.

Rwabwogo, often seen as a possible political successor, is at the center of these discussions, with critics questioning whether his family ties are giving him an inappropriate level of influence.

Many have applauded the MP for addressing the issue of nepotism, while others have defended Rwabwogo, claiming his business achievements are a result of his own hard work and not simply his familial connections. This controversy highlights ongoing concerns over political and economic fairness in Uganda, with the dominance of the Museveni family remaining a contentious issue.
