Juliet Kakande, the Member of Parliament for Masaka Municipality, has stirred controversy with claims that Barbie Kyagulanyi, wife of NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi is the true power behind the National Unity Platform.
Speaking during an interview on Sanyuka Television, Kakande stated that Barbie wields more influence within the party than Bobi Wine himself. According to the MP, while Bobi Wine serves as the official face of NUP and it is Barbie who makes most of the critical decisions.
“Many people assume Barbie is simply Bobi Wine’s wife and not involved in politics, but that’s far from the truth, she plays a central role in the party’s leadership, and her decisions often take precedence. In fact, she’s more influential than Bobi Wine.” Kakande said.
Kakande went on to allege that Barbie’s behind the scenes power is a major reason why she, along with fellow MP Mathias Mpuuga and others, has been marginalized within the party.
This bold statement comes just days after a group of dissenting NUP MPs, including Kakande, were given an ultimatum to either apologize to the party or face expulsion.
