Newcastle United produced a dominant display on April 13, 2025, outclassing Manchester United 4-1 at St. James’ Park in a result that could have major implications for both clubs' seasons.

The game sprang to life midway through the first half when Sandro Tonali coolly slotted home the opener in the 24th minute. The Italian midfielder timed his run perfectly to meet Anthony Gordon’s clever through-ball and placed a low shot beyond the reach of Altay Bayındır. Newcastle's intensity in midfield, led by Bruno Guimarães and Joelinton, overwhelmed the visitors early on.

Manchester United, however, briefly found a way back. Alejandro Garnacho equalized against the run of play in the 37th minute, seizing on a loose ball and finishing clinically into the bottom corner. The goal gave the Red Devils a lifeline, but it was short-lived.

The second half belonged entirely to Newcastle. Just four minutes after the restart, Harvey Barnes restored the lead, pouncing on a defensive blunder to make it 2-1. He wasn’t done yet. In the 64th minute, the winger added a sensational second, racing through the United defense before launching a thunderbolt into the top corner.

The commanding result marked Newcastle’s first league double over Manchester United since the 1930-31 season, having also beaten them at Old Trafford earlier in the campaign. The win propels Eddie Howe’s men to fifth place on 35 points, keeping their Champions League dream alive. United, in contrast, languish in 13th with 22 points and find themselves increasingly adrift, their current form raising serious concerns for manager Ruben Amorim.
