A Ugandan man accused members of the Special Forces Command (SFC) of torturing and detaining his brother, who was attempting to rush home to assist his injured pregnant wife.

In a public letter addressed to the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs, Uncle Mark shared an incident that allegedly occurred during a presidential convoy movement a few months ago.

According to Uncle Mark, his brother on a boda boda was rushing home after receiving a call from his pregnant wife, who had slipped and fallen in the bathroom.

However, he was stopped along with other motorists as President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni's convoy passed through town. So the man parked his motorcycle near a police post and attempted to proceed on foot in search of another means of transport.

At that very point, SFC officers intercepted him, beat him, and put him into a vehicle, detained for two days and later returned home with missing toenails and other visible injuries which showed signs of torture.

“Sadly, we lost the baby. His wife is healing,” wrote Uncle Mark.

The State House has issued a formal statement today confirming receipt of Mr. Agaba’s complaint and announcing the launch of a full investigation into the matter.

According to the statement from State House Uganda, the SFC has contacted Mr. Agaba and requested direct communication with the victim to gather information that could lead to the identification and apprehension of those involved in the alleged abuse of his brother.

"The SFC has taken deliberate steps to investigate the matter to establish its full details," the statement read.

The SFC has also called on the public to come forward with any useful information that could assist in the investigation.
