Tanzanian music star Diamond Platnumz left Uganda after his explosive performance in Ntungamo District during the Uganda Coffee Marathon weekend, but conversations about his visit are far from over.

The storm started when Eddy Kenzo publicly criticized the event organizers for their treatment of local artists. According to Kenzo, the Bongo flavor star Diamond Platnumz was flown into the country on a private jet and later taken by helicopter to western Uganda while Ugandan musicians were only offered fuel for transport to the same show.

The Sitya Loss singer's comments sparked mixed reactions, especially after it was reported that Diamond was paid UGX 750 million for his performance. Some musicians and fans expressed frustration, calling it disrespectful to local talent.

However, Ugandan media personality and social media influencer Sheila Gashumba stepped in with a different view, calling on Ugandan artists to reflect and learn from Diamond Platnumz instead of complaining.

Sheila took it to her X account and praised Diamond’s branding, stage presence, and style, saying Ugandan artists have a lot to learn from him.

“Looks like we may never see a Diamond Platnumz and Ugandan artist collab! But it all comes down to branding. I love Ugandan artists, but none of them perform like Diamond. From the way he dresses to how he entertains, he’s unmatched,” she posted.

Sheila added that instead of criticizing the already successful artists, Ugandans should rather put their focus on improving their brand and professionalism.

“Sometimes, we just have to accept that someone is ahead of us and learn from them instead of throwing jabs at them,” she added.

The discussion has opened up bigger questions about how Ugandan entertainers are treated and what it will take for them to compete regionally and internationally.
