Brenda Nabukenya, is a Ugandan politician and advocate for the empowerment of youth and women. She currently represents Luweero District as the Woman Member of Parliament and is a member of the National Unity Platform (NUP), a leading opposition party under the leadership of Robert Kyagulanyi, widely known as Bobi Wine.

Brenda’s leadership roots trace back to her time at Kyambogo University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics. She made history in 2005 by becoming the university’s first female Guild President.

During her tenure, she brought changes, including the revival of the guild canteen, which had been closed for years, and the reinforcement of student union systems. Her leadership was marked by stability, with no major student protests occurring during her term.

After completing her education, Brenda entered the national political arena. In 2011, she won a by-election to become the Woman MP for Luweero District. However, her victory faced a setback when the Court of Appeal overturned the results in 2014, citing electoral malpractices.

Brenda later staged a powerful comeback in the 2021 general elections. Running as an NUP candidate, she secured the Luweero seat with an impressive 76,801 votes, significantly outpacing her closest rival from the ruling NRM party.

Today, Nabukenya serves as the Shadow Minister for Education and Sports in Parliament. Additionally, she holds the position of Vice Chairperson of the Uganda Women Parliamentary Association (UWOPA).
