Kampala awoke to chaos today as heavy rainfall, that started at around 5:00 AM EAT, triggered widespread flooding across the city.
The downpour, which has continued for hours, has submerged roads, stranded vehicles, and damaged homes and businesses.
Among the hardest-hit areas are Banda, Kyambogo, Kyebando, Mukwano Road, Namasuba, Jinja Road, the Industrial Area, and parts of the Northern Bypass.
This left properties swept away by fast-moving water and vehicles trapped in trenches and floodwaters.
Many have blamed the government for the city’s drainage systems, criticized for being inadequate, have been overwhelmed by the volume of water, compounded by blocked channels and urban development in flood-prone areas.
Many residents were left frustrated and some saying the taxes oaid havent been of help to Ugandans. By the time this article was published, the city remains at standstill as waters continue to recede.
