Brenda Nabankema, a graduate of Makerere University, is proving that following one’s passion can lead to success, no matter the path taken. Though she holds a Bachelor’s degree in Education with a focus on Chemistry and Mathematics, Brenda’s true love has always been in the arts.

While pursuing her studies at Makerere, Brenda balanced her academic workload with her growing interest in creative crafts. She began experimenting with string art and crochet.

What started as a hobby gradually turned into a source of income. She began creating intricate string art designs and fashionable crochet bags, which quickly gained attention from fellow students, lecturers, and even people outside the university. Her ability to blend colors, patterns, and textures set her work apart, earning her a small but loyal customer base.

“I’ve always loved creating things with my hands, even though I studied science, art gave me peace and fulfillment. It was something I could always fall back on.” She said.

Today, Brenda works as a full-time teacher, putting her academic training in Chemistry and Mathematics to good use in the classroom. Yet, her passion for art remains stronger than ever. She continues to create stunning string art and stylish crochet bags, turning her talent into a thriving side hustle. Her handmade pieces remain in high demand, admired for their uniqueness and craftsmanship.
