Muhoozi Confirms Eddie Mutwe's Detention, Threatens Bobi Wine

Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has come under fire after admitting that Edward Ssebufu widely known as Eddie Mutwe and head of security for opposition leader Bobi Wine is being held in his basement.
Mutwe was reportedly abducted on April 27 by men in civilian clothing and military uniforms at Kiwango trading centre in Mukono.
In his posts, Gen. Muhoozi mocked Mutwe’s appearance, claiming his hair and beard had been shaved and describing his emotional state.
“He is in my basement. Learning Runyankore, You [Bobi Wine] are next.” he wrote

He also alleged that Mutwe is being forced to salute a photo of President Museveni daily.
Bobi Wine responded online, stating, “Museveni’s son confirms that our brother Eddie Mutwe is being detained in his basement… Time will tell.”

Human rights advocates and NUP supporters have decried the detention as illegal and inhumane.
There has been no official comment from the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) about Mutwe’s arrest or any legal justification. The incident raises serious concerns about political repression and abuse of power ahead of Uganda’s 2026 elections.
