Prostitution in Kampala: List of Locations Where Sex Work Is Common

Often referred to as one of the world’s oldest professions, prostitution continues to thrive in Uganda’s capital, Kampala, despite being illegal under the country’s Penal Code Act of 1950.

The law imposes penalties of up to seven years in prison for those involved, yet sex work remains widespread in the city’s bustling urban areas operating visibly during both daytime and night hours.

Female sex workers, typically dressed in provocative outfits to accentuate their bodies, can often be found stationed outside popular lodges and clubs.

They position themselves in high-traffic areas, adopting alluring postures to catch the attention of potential male clients. Constantly alert and observant, they scan their surroundings to ensure no prospective customer goes unnoticed.

When a man shows interest or slows down, the competition becomes intense. These women use gentle touches, soft words, and persuasive charm to appeal to clients. Fees are often negotiated on the spot, with agreements quickly made based on the type of service sought.

Many of these women have developed a keen sense of intuition, able to assess a man’s intent, whether he’s seeking a quick encounter or a longer arrangement. A warm, captivating smile often becomes their most effective tool of attraction.
