In the silent hours before dawn on May 3, 2025, a tragedy unfolded under the flickering lights of the Busabala Flyover in Wakiso District.
The peace of the early morning was shattered by the roar of an engine, a sudden crash, and a blaze that lit up the dark sky, a single moment that ended the life of Rajiv Ruparelia.
Behind the wheel of a high-performance Nissan GTR, bearing the registration UAT 638L, Rajiv was traveling from Kajjansi toward Munyonyo when disaster struck at approximately 1:54 AM.
As the sleek vehicle approached the roundabout section of the flyover, it collided with temporary roadside structures makeshift pavements that proved tragically unforgiving.
In a matter of seconds, the car lost control, overturned violently, and burst into flames.

When emergency crews arrived, it was already too late. The fire had consumed what remained of the vehicle, leaving no chance of rescue. Rajiv Ruparelia, an entrepreneur, public figure, and member of one of Uganda’s most prominent families was gone.
Authorities have launched a full investigation into the crash, but as of now, the precise cause remains undetermined. Whether speed, obstruction, or mechanical failure played a role is still under review. But the impact of the loss is already being felt across communities and social circles, both near and far.
