R. Kelly Rushed to Hospital After Alleged Overdose in Prison; Lawyer Claims Murder Plot

R&B artist R. Kelly, currently serving a 30-year prison sentence for racketeering and sex trafficking, has said that he is facing life-threatening circumstances while incarcerated at Federal Correctional Institution Butner in North Carolina.

According to recently filed court documents, Kelly’s legal team claims that the singer was a target of an assassination plot involving prison staff, along with being subjected to a forced overdose and denial of emergency medical care.

The singer's attorney, Beau B. Brindley, filed an emergency motion on June 16, requesting that the singer be moved to home confinement. According to the documents Kelly was placed in solitary confinement on June 10, and two days later, on June 12, he was allegedly given an overdose of his prescribed anxiety and sleep medications.

As a result, Kelly collapsed and was transported to Duke University Hospital in Durham, where doctors reportedly discovered blood clots in both his legs and lungs and recommended urgent surgery.

According to claims, prison officials forcibly returned Kelly to the facility preventing him from undergoing the necessary procedure.

“This wasn’t an accident. The overdose was life-threatening,” the attorney argued in the motion.

Federal prosecutors have dismissed the allegations as “unfounded” and “outrageous,” describing the motion as a tactic to attract media attention. They also noted that Kelly’s legal team had filed the case in the wrong jurisdiction.
